Medical Care
Course Description:
Every Officer who is designated to provide medical first aid on board ship shall successfully complete an approved training programme in Medical First Aid / Medicare, meeting the standards of competency specified in section A-VI/4-1 and section A-VI/4-2 of the STCW Code.
1. Apply immediate first aid in the event of accident or illness on board.
2. Provide medical care to the sick and injured while they remain on board.
3. Participate in coordinated schemes for medical assistance to ships.
Course Assessment:
Assessment is continuous during the course, with a final written and practical assessment on the last day
Course Certification
Successful candidates will receive certificate of proficiency in Medical Care.
Course Requirement:
For the issue of a Certificate of Proficiency in Medical First Aid, candidate must:
(a) Already hold a Certificate of Proficiency in Elementary First Aid (Section A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code) or similar training acceptable to the STCW Standard
(b) Successfully complete an approved training programme in Medical First Aid; meeting the standards of competency specified in section A-VI/4-2 of the STCW Code.
